An AI agent can now trade from a self-custodial crypto wallet without a person signing each transaction. MetaMask reportedly launched Agent Wallet on August 6, 2026, according to CoinPaprika News — a wallet that lets AI agents execute on-chain trades inside limits the user defines in advance. It arrived in the same window as BNB Chain's Agent Studio v2, a BNB Chain hackathon aimed at building an AI agent trading market, and Chainlink's new 'Chainlink for Agents' infrastructure. Three organizations, three separate products, one direction of travel: giving autonomous software direct but bounded access to crypto funds.
What MetaMask reportedly launched
Per CoinPaprika's report, Consensys built Agent Wallet for agents that watch markets, prepare transactions, and trade once predefined conditions are met. The wallet is described as self-custodial, meaning the user keeps the private keys rather than handing custody to a third party. Before an agent can act, users reportedly set spending caps and approve a list of protocols the agent is allowed to interact with.
For a user, that list is the boundary: how much the agent can spend, and where it can spend it.
From manual signing to delegated, bounded authority
The change described in the reporting is a move away from approving every individual transaction by hand and toward handing software a defined scope of authority. Under the reported model, the user signs nothing trade by trade. The rules — spending limits and approved protocols — are set once, and the agent operates inside them from that point on. That makes the configuration itself the security model: how tightly or loosely the caps and allowlists are set determines how much latitude the agent has over the funds it can reach.
Part of a broader push toward agentic finance
MetaMask's reported launch is not an isolated one. Business Insider reported that BNB Chain launched BNB Agent Studio v2, described as expanding what autonomous AI agents can do with money — including earning their own income — while operating inside owner-defined financial limits enforced onchain. KuCoin News reported that BNB Chain launched a 'Build the Era' hackathon on August 5, 2026, inviting developers to build an AI agent trading marketplace on BNB Smart Chain. On the infrastructure side, CoinCentral reported that Chainlink launched 'Chainlink for Agents,' described as a layer that lets autonomous AI agents trade, bridge assets, and earn yield directly from crypto wallets.
CryptoNews Australia additionally reported that Chainlink Labs executive Andrew McCormick said he expects AI agents and robots to drive a growing share of blockchain activity, as autonomous systems increasingly need infrastructure for communication and transactions. That is a projection attributed to McCormick, not an established fact. What the cluster of launches does tell readers is narrower: agent permissions are becoming a wallet setting they may soon be asked to configure.
